Route Administered Intravenous, Intramuscular
Precautions Test dosage before treatment to assess for allergic reactions. Antihistamines, corticosteroids and ephedrine available for reactions. Retreatment at later time requires special precautions
Side Effects Fever, allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), neurologic problems (seizures, reduced level of consciousness, drowsiness), stroke, liver malfunction, weakness, increased blood sugar, pancreatitis, kidney failure, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, sore mouth, malabsorption
